Amsara Sekhita Mai Holly 

Amsara Sekhita Mai is an actress, singer, and member of the girl group, Holly Girlz. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 12th, 1992 to Artist/Producers Obi and Carla Holly. Two years later, shortly after the birth of younger sister Taia Maati Khum, her family moved back 'Home' to Washington D.C. to be nearer to relatives and expand their daughters' cultural environment. Also known as "Chocolate City," she was raised in Washington D.C. amongst a rich backdrop of wholistic, traditional, African religion, Pan-African community and a wealth of artists and educators city-wide. It's only natural that she would receive traditional African Rite-Of-Passage training as well, to strengthen her foundation and brighten her glow. 

 

Amsara Sekhita Mia expressed a natural talent and enthusiasm for the arts at an early age. An inquisitive child, she demonstrated a sophisticated ability for fine art and a sharp musical ear at age 2. 

 

At the age of 12, she earned the lead role in 'Disney's Mulan Jr.' at the renowned Kennedy Center. The experience would change her life. Throughout her middle and high school years, Amsara participated in several school concert choir and community theater productions. True to her path, the following year she snagged a supporting role on HBO's Award-Winning drama "The Wire" and Co-Hosted RHN's "Young World".

 

At the age of 17, she and her sister's formed the Holly Girlz, initially a duet. It seemed second nature, as everywhere they went- in a social or performance setting- they were referred to as "The Holly Girlz" by all.

 

Shortly thereafter in 2010, Amsara enrolled in the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in Los Angeles, CA to pursue a BFA in Musical Theater. The next year, her parents made the decision to relocate the family to Los Angeles to allow their daughters the element to pursue their goals. She assisted in co-writing an original play "From His Hands" (2011) the following year, Amsara Co-Wrote and Co-Directed her second play "Dinner With Foreigners" (2012), with writing partner Nate Lovell. In the same year, she was cast in one of the lead roles in the musical 'Hairspray' as "Lil Inez." Later in the year, her younger sister Ariana Shring and Maasa Timbala Sanefer Mi-Ling would also join the Holly Girlz.

 

In 2013 Amsara starred in her first short film "Rhythms Of Djembe." Simultaneously, the Holly Girlz released the single "Wind It Up Like (Chuck Brown)".  This track pays homage to the creator and “Godfather of Go-go” music, the acclaimed jazz and funk musician Chuck Brown while highlighting D.C.’s iconic go-go music sound.  They received accolades in the underground DMV (Washington, DC/Maryland/Virginia) music scene.  Intent on building a Holly Girlz presence, the quartet also launched its website in 2013 - further expanding the Holly Girlz brand and featuring the Holly Girlz entertainment outlet "SoHG". In 2017, the group released its first collection of apparel, “Holly Girl By Holly Girlz” through a partnership with the online store HOODBOT.

 

Amsara starred in her first short film "Rhythms Of Djembe" (2013) and walked the runway in her modeling debut for Fashion AID Los Angeles. She appeared in BET’s film "Lucky Girl" (2015) and played the supporting role of "Sammi Lauren" in 'Middleschoolandia' for the Hollywood Fringe Festival (2017). Since then she has made appearances and worked on television and film projects such as Apple TV's Roar (2022), Euphoria (2022), The Wire (2006), All American: Homecoming (2021), Orville (Season 2), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). Her proudest role was in the short film"Till Now We Stand" (2021), which she co-wrote and co-starred in with her sisters in collaboration with Modern LaLa Land and BRON Studios.

 

In 2018, Amsara became a red carpet correspondent for Fashion TV at LA Fashion Week. Following that experience, she expanded her role as a personality by interviewing fashion designers in partnership with Modern LaLa Land TV. In the same year, she formed Holly Girlz LLC with her sisters, becoming the CEO and Creative Director. Simultaneously, she enrolled at Full Sail University pursuing her B.S. in Entertainment Business - graduating in 2021. Shortly after, Amsara received her Master's Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Full Sail University 2022. Amsara is currently working on the first Holly Girlz album/ EP with her sisters, completing a novel, and pursuing TV and film projects. In her own words-"Let's Make This Happen!"- she is ready to make her mark on the world.
